World of Warcraft Guides
Hi,
I’m Nat (Nathanial) and this website has been created to help newbie and experienced players alike develop and hone their skills through the use of World of Warcraft Guides.
Within the site You will discover plenty of tips & tricks to super-charge your level-up time, harvest gold and, most importantly of all, enjoy your World of Warcraft gaming experience.
World of Warcraft (or WoW as it’s also known) is an online game where the players act out the roles of fantasy characters and inhabit a virtual world of mystery, magic, and adventure.
The game was/still is developed and maintained by Blizzard Entertainment. and the version I cover in this site is the 4th incarnation in the Warcraft series.
The game takes place in the world of Azeroth and it’s basic theme is age-old the struggle between Good (the Alliance) and Evil (the Horde). However, as with real life – things are never quite as simple as they seem…there are many more immediate dangers in WoW.
When playing the game you collect gold, gain experience & pickup all manner of strange and wonderful items. The more of these things you accumulate the the higher level your character becomes and the more intense the fun and games get! This may sound like a walk in the park but, rest assured, having a tried and tested WoW strategy gets you these things consistently and, more importantly to most: quickly.
A WoW strategy is the foundation to owning a great character and the bedrock of an awesome experience playing the game.
With that in mind, a good “all round” guide to both leveling your character and harvesting gold is:
The Ultimate World of Warcraft Guide
The above site has a huge membership area and is packed with current information about getting your character from level 1 to 85. Plus, they have an excellent up-to-date guide on getting yourself a respectable gold stash.
Anyway, more about the game…
When you begin to play you must choose four things: which Faction to join, which Race your character is from, what Class of character they are and which Gender (Gender is purely a cosmetic choice – it has literally no impact on character abilities).
Faction choice comes down to: Alliance (notional good guys) or Horde (baddies). The choice of Faction makes little difference to you overall ability to enjoy the game. The main point to understand is that you cannot communicate in-game with members of the opposing Faction. So if you’re playing with friends and want to be able to talk with them…make sure you all join the same faction!
Race choice is again largely cosmetic. It mainly determines what your character will look like. There are currently 12 Races available to choose from – 6 Alliance and 6 Horde. They are:
Alliance: Worgen, Draenei, Dwarf, Gnome, Human and Night Elf.
Horde: Goblin, Blood Elf, Orc, Tauren, Troll and Forsaken.
Choosing your character Class is a big decision. Your character’s Class determines what he/she can and cannot do and, to a large extent, gives you a unique playing experience within the game.
To appreciate how much of a deal Class choice is, you need to understand that WoW gameplay largely revolves around a) fighting monsters and b) solving quests. You can do all of this by yourself but to get the most out of the game you need to visit the Dungeons and take part in Raids – these must be attempted by groups of players; and when you are in a group – you all have your roles to play.
There are three broad roles when in group play: Tank, Healer and Damage dealer.
A tank is, well… like a tank. Big, armoured and able to take a lot of punishment: the role of a tank is to soak up the punishment handed out by the enemy, so that the other (less durable) players don’t get toasted in minute-one.
A healer is just what the label says: they’ve got the potions, the lotions and the spells to make it all better after some ugly hombre has chopped your arm off over a damsel in distress.
Damage dealers: in a word, ninja-types that inflict maximum damage in minimum time – they sacrifice hardiness (that the tanks have in abundence) for a greater ability to kick ass.
Some character Classes in World of Warcraft have the ability to only fulfill one of these broad roles, while some can do a reasonable job at all three. This is where you pays your money and takes your choice. What are you? A jack of all trades? or an absolute specialist?
A big saving grace here, especially for the newbies, is that you can create multiple characters in WoW (up to 50) – so, my first tip to you is: try out a few classes before you spend a lot of time and money investing in a particular one; that way you’ll find your niche and achieve the inner harmony given only to those following their true path.
There are currently 10 character classes to choose from:
Druid, Hunter, Mage, Paladin, Priest, Rogue, Shaman, Warlock, Warrior and Death Knight (you must have the Lich King expansion pack to play a Death Knight)
Be warned, not all classes are available to both Alliance and Horde factions – although a balance is struck so that neither side has an overall advantage in this respect.
Within the game your character can become skilled in Professions. There are primary and secondary Professions that your character can specialise in:
-Primaries: Alchemy, Blacksmithing, Crafting, Enchanting, Engineering, Gathering, Herbalism, Inscription, Jewelcrafting, Mining, Skinning and Tailoring
-Secondaries: Cooking, Fishing, First Aid and (most recently) Archeology.
Note: The class: Rogue actually comes with two secondary professions all of its own: Lock Picking & Poisons.
Ok, i’m in serious danger of turning this page into an epic. If you got this far, I thank you – those powers of perseverance will stand you in good stead when in-game. But now its time for me to go and for you to look at some more articles or jump in and play.
